Sacramento's Wide Open Walls Festival: Artists Are Literally Painting The Town

August 8, 2019

In 2016, Sacramento's inaugural mural festival featured 12 artists transforming the exteriors of 12 buildings in the capital city into larger-than-life masterpieces. The next year marked the first annual Wide Open Walls Festival, which branched out of the grid to decorate neighborhoods throughout Sacramento, with more than 30 large-scale works.

Last year Wide Open Walls continued the transformation of the capital city into a giant, FREE outdoor public art gallery with local artists and artists from around the world creating murals on 40 walls throughout the Sacramento region.

Today, the 3rd Annual Wide Open Walls Festival kicks off, with 55 artists celebrating artistic expression, diversity, and community.

Wide Open Walls is officially the largest mural festival in the country. Watching the artists work is a marvel to behold. The festival is loaded with events, culminating with a street party on August 17th. There are currently  101 masterpieces throughout Sacramento with more to come!
