Sacramento Mourns The Loss Of Restaurant Legend Biba Caggiano

August 29, 2019

Italian born Biba Caggiano moved to Sacramento in 1969, so this city can rightfully claim her as our jewel.  Having been taught how to cook by her mother, she opened an Italian restaurant in 1986 and to this day it remains one of the premiere Italian - not Italian American - restaurants in the country.

Biba passed away last night after a battle with Alzheimer's. As recently as last year, when a group from The Eagle had dinner at Biba's, the famous chef stopped by our table for a short visit (standing on the right) .

Biba wrote numerous books, hosted a TV show and was a passionate supporter of her adopted home. Back in the day, she was a woman in the predominantly male world of chefs.  The respect and love shown by fellow restaurateurs in the region and the world speaks volumes. Hers is truly a beautiful story.

Rest in peace, Biba. More likely, serve up an epic meal in heaven. Ciao, Bella.
