A music festival, yes, a real music festival will take place this summer.

The Herd Immunity Fest is set to take place July 16-18 in Ringle, WI on an outdoor stage at the Q&Z Expo Center. If the festival takes place as planned, it’ll be one of the first since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Promoters for the festival wrote on Facebook, “when the lock down first happened my first thought was OK we can all do 2 weeks, then it went on and on, things were getting cancelled, I started to worry about people not only for this COVID but mental, physical, financial.”

“As humans we NEED other human contact. MUSIC in itself is great, but the live streams as I am sure you all know is just not the same we need LIVE , feel it to the bones, run shivers up your spine MUSIC with people around us. Takes us all away on a trip that unless you have felt it you won't understand.”

The festival features acts like Static-X, Dope, Nonpoint, Thunderstruck (an AC/DC tribute band), One (Metallica tribute), and more.

Organizers haven’t stated whether the festival’s name is in reference to the herd immunity theory. The theory postulates that the virus can be beaten by having it spread to the majority of the population in order to quickly develop immunity. This scenario would likely cause significant deaths and its efficacy has been questioned by medical experts.

Although the festival will be one of the first of its kind since the pandemic started, a recent poll suggests a majority of Americans plan on staying home from large public gatherings until a COVID-19 vaccine is in place.
